Brunswick, Shostakovich... Griffiths?

I am getting more and more wrapped up in this Caroline and George scenario. I am coming up with lots of sounds that are so foreign to me but I'm incredibly excited by them. I started writing a duet today for the characters of Maria Fitzherbert and Signor Pergami. I also started working on some sort of Overture (or just some piece that could be chock full of themes that could go into the show).

There are two shows I want to write at the moment. One of them is a fictional story inspired by the events that happened with Mike Melvill in 2004, regarding the first commercial space aircraft. This story requires much detail that I will happily go into another time. The other, and currently more involving is an "opera-esque" piece that is just as farcical as it is tragic, and it's the story of Queen Caroline of Brunswick and King George IV. I don't know why, but I am so endlessly fascinated by these two people and the incredibly disturbing (not to mention hilarious) relationship they shared together. And it ties in so fascinatingly well with the idea of marriage in the 21st century, and how absurd it is treated or at least discussed. I want this show to be about the ultimate war between husband and wife. I keep looking into angry marching music as source material. My knowledge of classical music is extremely limited, but I recently learned about Shostakovich and his 5th and 13th symphonies, and that is some pissed off music. And so much fun to listen to!

In other news,

I watched an episode of my favorite t.v. show last night with a wonderful friend. It was episode 9, season 1 of "Six Feet Under" I've never been and probably never will be (at least for a while) as invested into a world of characters like I am with this show. It's such a strange show, and beautiful, and really friggin' funny. And Rachel Griffiths should always be a source of inspiration for actors.

This summer so far is very weird. But never boring.

It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.

Yes. It has finally happened. I decided to start a blog. There's a certain self satisfaction in knowing that any thought or idea that you pop into your head can be posted on the internet for anyone in the world to see. And of course it has uncomfortable dangers. But, it is very self-gratifying to do so (at least I find). So why not? And way too many people I love and care about blog about the things they see, learn, do, think about, etc... for it not to be something worth investing.

I feel like I have to write something vague and generic for the first blog. But that's dumb. I can write anything I want!

Anyways, I'm home in Florida for the weekend. I will have seen a movie every day since I came in. I saw "The Secret in Their Eyes", "Shrek 4", and in about twenty minutes I'm going to see "How To Train Your Dragon" again with my dad because he has yet to see it. Alicia has been cuter than ever. She now sleeps in front of my door whenever the door is closed, and thus I've begun an open door policy. And I've been pounding on the keys on Pegasus since I came home. It's amazing how different every piano is. Every time I come home, I have to get my hands back into the swing of things when they're playing Pegasus, versus when they're playing Icarus in New York. Or any other piano.

It's frustrating knowing that I'm not going to spend much time in Florida this summer. I'm excited for Ohio and I'm EXTREMELY excited for Sweden. The classes I'm taking right now in New York are fun. However, I don't know how much longer I'm going to have this house to call home. And I want to be able to soak up as much time here as possible.

I started writing a couple songs earlier. One of them has a really simple and pretty arpeggiated chord progression (it's always a joy when you find one of those and they feel brand new). The other one is a violent and angry "bavarian-esque," operatic piece. There are two stories in my head. I don't know which one to commit to. And every time I write music for one story, the next piece of music ends up working better for the other.

By the way, do you ever notice often how often on "Law and Order" characters relay important information while walking around hallways? It's funny.

Here's to a first blog!
